My 8th Full Marathon (42.2KM) Solo Joiner; Nueva Ecija Marathon 2025

Filipino Marathon Slow Runner Solo Joiner 06-Jul-2025 Sunday in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, Philippines

This Fun Run served as my official Eighth FULL-MARATHON 42.2KM and Seventh Road Marathon as a Solo Joiner, following the Bukidnon Mountain Marathon last June 2025My main objective is just to finish the race (beating my previous PR is optional), I want to enjoy the run at my own pace.

New PR:

NO

Pace:

07:53

Rank:

64.77% (57th of 88)

My Rating:

3 of 10 stars

not so organized, very minimal aid station, flat route with minimal elevation gain

Route difficulty: Almost flat route along Guimba main road for only 43m total elevation gain, ideal for PR, excellent for marathon beginners and slow runners like me. Using headlamp/flashlight is important as some areas of the route is pitch black.
Remarks (My rating: 3 of 10 stars): (1) Full Marathon route is awesome due to its almost flat terrain; passing through Guimba main road, etc. (2) Not so organized, started late with race area not ready yet. (3) 42km Singlet/Finisher shirt design is somehow good. (4) Very minimal aid station (only water) with locations very far to each other (provided map was not followed). (5) Only milk tea, no post-race meal. (6) Full Marathon route was approximately 100m short. (7) No portalet, only one toilet available for all the participants (8) Poor planning in general
If given the chance, would I like to join this race again? No (enough for the experience)

My 1st Ultramarathon (50KM) Solo Joiner; Pampanga to Bulacan 2025

Filipino Ultra Road Run Solo Joiner January 25 to 26, 2025 in Bulacan, Philippines

Pampanga to Bulacan Ultramarathon 2025 (50 KM) is in its third year of ultra road running distance from Guagua, Pampanga passing through San Fernando, Mexico, San Luis, Candaba then ends in Baliuag, Bulacan happening every first quarter of the year. Not much was provided by the Race Director / Organizer. It's my first time joining a road ultramarathon and my pre-birthday marathon adventure.

I've been a Fun Run Solo Joiner since 2007 but not as a runner (walker actually as most of the time I was walking), just for the sake of Race Singlet and being a joiner. My longest distance was even 10km (about 2x only), and usual for 5km. I stopped joining because I was lazy and lost interest. More than 10 years later until April 13, 2024, my first official run training for Fun-Run, I was so bored I had nothing to do and no regular hobby (so somehow it was a spontaneous decision). My main triggering factor was the FINISHER SHIRT (bragging entitlement shirt) and TikTok / FB Reels of running tips randomly (not that motivated, just for a push on my interest). From 10km to a Half-Marathon, I suddenly decided again to elevate the distance to a full marathon (42.2km) as my running interest is getting addicted out of boredom and depression.

My 1st Ultramarathon (50KM) Solo Joiner; Pampanga to Bulacan 2025

Race Name:

PAMPANGA TO BULACAN ULTRA 2025

Distance:

ULTRAMARATHON (50KM)

Registration:

₱3,360

Inclusion:

Race Bib, Singlet, Finisher Shirt/Medal, Trophy, Loot Bag, Post Race Meal

Location:

GUAGUA TO BALIWAG ROUTE

Cut-off Time:

25-Jan-2025 Sat (10 hours)

Requirements:

NONE, registration fee only

Shoes I used:

Asics Novablast 4

Finished:

YES

Time:

09:29:01

Altitude Gain:

60m

New PR:

YES

Pace:

11:04

Rank:

96.99% (129th of 133)

ITRA:

N/A

UTMB:

N/A

My Rating:

8 of 10 stars

Route difficulty: Point to point route is one of the best running route for an ultramarathon race with seven aid stations along. Starting from Guagua, Pampanga passing through San Fernando, Mexico, San Luis, Candaba then ends in Baliuag, Bulacan. Total distance of almost 52 kilometers with a relatively flat route (60m total altitude gain) which is awesome for new PR aim.
Remarks (My rating: 8 of 10 stars): (1) Beginner-friendly route, the route has minimal elevation gain (60m) (2) Well-organized, started on time. Minimal water stops. (3) Singlet design is ok / Finisher Shirt/Medal design is good. (4) Registration fee is reasonable enough (5) My opinion/observation during the run, biased toward those group runners (felt some support vehicle finishers, lol!).
If given the chance, would I like to join this race again? No (enough for the experience)

6 Day Budget DIY Solo Trip in Baguio City (Pre-Christmas December 2024)

Chill Pre-Holiday Adventure in Baguio City, Philippines December 13 to 19, 2024

This trip served as my 4th visit, where my 1st visit happened last 2003 for my College Educational Tour, the reason why I brought my family was because I was mesmerized by Baguio city's beauty. Also, the main reason why I came back is because of my 1st Ultra Trail Marathon in the Philippines.

Baguio City is located at an altitude of 1,450 meters above sea level on the Cordillera Administrative Region in the middle of the island of Luzon, in the Philippines. Due to its cool mountain weather, Baguio is considered the summer capital of the Philippines. Because of its many pine trees it is also called the City of Pines. In October 31, 2017, it became part of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, the first city in the Philippines to join the list.

My Last Two Provinces, Short Visit in Kalinga and Abra

Return to the North, My Final Provinces to complete the 81 Provinces of the Philippines June 24 to 27, 2022

My 102nd solo backpacking trip and of course, usual budget do-it-yourself (DIY) itinerary from arrival to departure. Also, Kalinga and Abra served as my 80th and 81st province respectively on my quest to conquer the 81 Provinces of the Philippines.

The new normal of traveling is inevitable. Pandemic doesn't stop me of my dream and excitement to visit places I've never been. Coming from a 7 months solo trip in American Continent from Nov. 2020 to Jun. 2021, this itchy feet strikes again. This trip is also considered as my Pandemic Adventure Series following the (1) Earth Circumnavigation Jan. 2020, (2) Abu Dhabi Folding Bike Cycling Apr. 2020, (3) Caribbean and Europe Oct. 2020, (4) American Continent Jan. 2021, (5) Mindanao Nov. 2021, (6) Visayas to Luzon RORO Trips Feb. 2022, (7) Mindoro Island Mar. 2022 and (8) Southernmost Philippines Apr. 2022

I made a short visit unintentionally to Kalinga and Abra due to the following;

For Kalinga, my planned itinerary was to visit Buscalan rice terraces. Due to no regular transport from Tabuk to Buscalan and no transport from Tabuk to any part of Abra, I decided to go to Baguio for Bangued destination. 14 hours gruesome bus travel from Tabuk to Bangued transit in Baguio

For Abra, my planned itinerary was to visit Kaparkan Falls. As advised during visit in Bangued, Kaparkan Falls is subjective to open in public on August 2022. Thus, I just visited the Cassamata Hills out of frustration and did not visit other tourist spots anymore.

Preparation: CebuPacific SuperPass MNL-TUG-MNL 1,900

6 Days Summer Laid-back Solo Trip in Mindoro Island

Public transportation road trip to Mindoro Island (Occidental to Oriental) loop road
March 25 to 30, 2022

My 100th solo backpacking trip and of course, usual budget do-it-yourself (DIY) itinerary from arrival to departure. Also, Occidental Mindoro served as my 77th province on my quest to conquer the 81 provinces of the Philippines.

2021 and (6) Visayas to Luzon RORO Trips Feb. 2022.

This trip was supposedly my very first Pilipinas Solo Bikepacking to Mindoro Island Loop (approximately 850km). On the 40km distance on the first day of cycling, I experienced tremendous muscle pain on both of my thighs. I've been to 150km a day solo biking abroad, I did not anticipate this kind of injury. I tried to push three times but the muscle pain keeps fighting. Thus, I needed to take a Grab Car to go home early. After hours of rest, I decided to push my Mindoro Island loop trip due to an irresistible mindset.
