Filipino Solo Backpacker adventure on quest to complete Philippines' version of Seven Natural Wonders
July 2009 to November 2021
Boracay Island. Chocolate Hills. Aliwagwag Falls. Mount Apo. Mayon Volcano. Puerto Princesa Underground River. Taal Volcano. . I made this post in respect on how was the Seven Natural Wonders of the World was selected and in reference to CNN's Seven Natural Wonders. Seven Natural Wonders campaign was distinguished by avoiding the influence of marketing and social media, and being determined by experts from around the world who leveraged statistical and traditional significance, uniqueness, and pure splendor.
1. Boracay Island, Aklan (Visayas) - famous for its fine white sands and world-class sunset. In 2012, awarded as the Best Island in the World by Travel + Leisure. In 2014, at the top of the "Best Islands in the World" list by Condé Nast Traveler. In 2016, Boracay headed the magazine's list of "Top 10 destinations to watch". I visited last Dec. 2011, Jun. 2013, Jul. 2016 and Feb. 2020.
2. Chocolate Hills, Bohol (Visayas) - featured in 200 Philippine peso bill, with at least 1,776 conical karst hills spread over an area of more than 50 sq km. I visited last Sep. 2011.
3. Aliwagwag Falls, Davao Oriental (Mindanao) - highest waterfalls in the Philippines at 335.28m (1,100 ft) located in Davao Oriental. I visited last Aug. 2012.
4. Mount Apo, Davao del Sur (Mindanao) - dormant stratovolcano and the highest mountain in the Philippines with 2,954 masl elevation, I visited last Nov. 2021.
5. Mayon Volcano, Albay (Luzon) - featured in 100 Philippine peso bill, active stratovolcano renowned for its "perfect cone" because of its symmetric conical shape. I visited last May 2011.
6. Puerto Princesa Underground River, Palawan (Luzon) - featured in 500 Philippine peso bill, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, and voted as a New7Wonders of Nature in 2012. With more than 24 km long and contains largest cave rooms in the world. I visited last Jul. 2009.
7. Taal Volcano, Batangas (Luzon) - featured in 50 Philippine peso bill, very small but a dangerous volcano, the Main Crater Lake on Volcano Island is the largest lake on an island in a lake on an island in the world. I visited last Feb. 2013.
