My Great Concern as a Filipino Fun-hiker trekking in the Philippines;
Almost all mountains in the Philippines (be it a major / minor hike or low / high elevation, TRAIL GUIDE IS ALWAYS REQUIRED. Even the registration fee and any other chargeable fees which obviously has no logical reason, THESE FEES ARE ADDITIONAL CHARGES TO BE PAID ASIDE FROM THE EXPENSIVE GUIDE FEE. I've been to more than 50 mountain hikes in 5 continents around the world, almost all the mountain DOESN'T CHARGE ANYTHING (registration fee, guide fee, environmental fee, local fee, indiginuos fee, etc), even that mountain is famous globally.
In general, since trail guide is present throughout, hiking in the Philippines is very safe.
