Tinuy-an Falls, Surigao del Sur's Window to the World

solo exploring eastern mindanao in 4-days
saturday to thursday august 04-09, 2012
After I spent the night in nearby hostel in Tagum bus terminal in Davao del norte, my next destination is the famous waterfalls of Surigao del sur.

how to go here;
From Tagum bus terminal, ride a bus bound to Bislig of Surigao del sur then drop-off to main road where to access Tinuy-an falls. Travel time is estimated 5 hours. Then, rent a habal-habal (php300 roundtrip) that will took 15 kilometers distance by approximation.

With entrance fee of 50 pesos, Tinuy-an falls is called as the window to the world by the Surigao local government due to its curtain-shape waterfalls. This is also tagged as the Niagara falls of the Philippines but when I arrived there it was on its peak of low-tide. The falls is 95 meters wide and 55 metres (180 ft) high, Tinuy-an is a white water curtain that flows in three levels with four cascaded layer and is said to be one of the widest waterfalls in the Philippines. Every morning, the area shows a rainbow between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Surigao del Sur was created as the 56th Philippine province on June 19, 1960 by virtue of RA2786 and was formally organized or separated from its mother province, Surigao del Norte, on September 18, 1960. Surigao formerly, was extended from what is known as Agusan, including the islands east of it and the northern regions of Davao and the capital of the province that time was Caraga and so the Spaniards called the people Caragas.
