Windy Province of Catanduanes 1st part

my birthday beachbumming trip
january 28-30, 2011 friday-sunday

objective: to visit the best tourist spots that fits my taste and budget accordingly.
additional tasks: to experience wind-based hobbies on beach

important note (catanduanes):
"Isla de Cobos" was Catanduanes' first adopted name. It was earned as such during the early part of 1573 when Spanish conquistadores came upon several tribes living in the thatched huts called cobos. Catanduanes, is a hispanized term derived from the word tandu, a native beetle and the samdong tree, which were both found in abundance throughout the island. Common reference to "katanduan" or "kasamdongan", meaning a place where the tandu or the samdong tree thrives in abundance, led to the coining the word Catanduanes

DAY ONE:
birthday friday

incidentally, my birthday get-away took placed in this infamous spot across bicol region, curious to know what's with this province, I didn't feel any regrets on my way after I went home sunday afternoon.

we left manila 7am and arriving past 8am in virac airport. we walked outside and rode a tricycle bound to downtown. have our breakfast with spaghetti and 'puto' before proceeding to our itinerary. tourist spots we have visited are as follows in order;

maribina falls

maribina falls
1. bato church - oldest church in virac
2. batalay shrine - an ordinary shrine, not much to see. i just thought it was a tourist spot.
3. radar station - PAGASA weather radar station. off-limits to tourist, unless you have government-issued pass, due there was ongoing contruction.
4. maribina falls - most famous waterfalls in catanduanes
5. puraran beach - located in baras, one of famous surfing spot in the philippines. we went here via jeep bound to gigmoto. What "Cloud Nine" is to Siargao, "Majestic" is to Puraran.

we stayed overnight on majestic resort on it cool nipa hut style cottage by spending only 500 per pax including snacks, dinner and breakfast. i really recommend everyone to stay here, the cheapest beachfront accomodation i have ever experienced, not including the awesome windy state of pacific ocean facing the shores.
