Cape Town last part; Tour inside District Six Museum

4 Days Solo Trip in Summer South Africa (Cape Town City)
February 06 to 10, 2018

District Six was named the Sixth Municipal District of Cape Town in 1867. A mixed of suburb of free slaves, merchants, artisans, laborers and immigrants, District Six was a vibrant, close-knit community. The museum opened its doors to the public on 10-Dec-1994. It portrays the history of Apartheid and its effects on ordinary people through an intimate look at their personal stories. It works with the memories of the District Six experience and with that of forced removals more generally.

I contracted one of my UBER rider for a road trip journey to Cape of Good Hope from Cape Town City Center for a day from 0800H to 1700H passing by the picturesque landscape / coastal side of Cape Peninsula. I negotiated the whole day private road trip for 1,000 ZAR ($83.7) excluding our entrance fees to tourist spots (if required). We started in Muizenburg Beach (for surfing sight-seeing), Boulder Beach (for African Penguins), Cape of Good Hope (the most south-western point of the African Continent), Cape Point (the most south-east corner of Cape Peninsula), Noordhoek Beach (white sand beach with wide shore), Chapman's Peak drive (for awesome cliff view of Hout Bay) and lastly to Kirstenbosch (botanical garden at the foot of Table Mountain).

Cape Town 3rd part; Lion's Head Evening Solo Hike (669masl)

4 Days Solo Trip in Summer South Africa (Cape Town City)
February 06 to 10, 2018

This is the third part of my personal challenge TRIPLE SOLO DAY HIKE in CAPE TOWN's TABLE MOUNTAIN THREE PEAKS (Devil's Peak, Table Mountain and Lion's Head). I did this to maximize my time on this area, save UBER ride fees and to challenge my signs of aging. Lion's Head has the easiest trail and the lowest among the three peaks. I finished the hike from ascent on less than 2 hours with more than 200m altitude gain. No registration fees and guide not required (trail is well recognizable). The trail is smooth, requires some ladder, chain, stapel, and very exposed to radiation. Hydration and sun protection is a must. I have only less than a liter drinking water on the entire hike wearing only a shirt and casual shorts. Challenge successful :)

Lion's Head (669masl) is a mountain in Cape Town, between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The peak forms part of a dramatic backdrop to the city of Cape Town and is part of the Table Mountain National Park.

Cape Town 2nd part; Table Mountain Afternoon Solo Hike (1,085masl)

4 Days Solo Trip in Summer South Africa (Cape Town City)
February 06 to 10, 2018

This mountain adventure is considered as my 10th major hike abroad.

This is the second part of my personal challenge TRIPLE SOLO DAY HIKE in CAPE TOWN's TABLE MOUNTAIN THREE PEAKS (Devil's Peak, Table Mountain and Lion's Head). I did this to maximize my time on this area, save UBER ride fees and to challenge my signs of aging. Table Mountain has the most difficult trail and the highest among the three peaks. I finished the hike from ascent on around 3 hours with more than 600m altitude gain. No registration fees and guide not required (trail is well recognizable). The trail is very steep, rocky, and very exposed to radiation. Hydration and sun protection is a must. I have only less than a liter drinking water on the entire hike wearing only a shirt and casual shorts. Challenge successful :)

Table Mountain (1,085masl) main feature is the level plateau approximately 3 kilometres from side to side, edged by impressive cliffs. The highest point on Table Mountain is towards the eastern end of the plateau about 19 metres higher than the cable station at the western end of the plateau. The cliffs of the main plateau are split by Platteklip Gorge ("Flat Stone Gorge"), which provides an easy and direct ascent to the summit.

Cape Town 1st part; Devil's Peak Morning Solo Hike (1,001masl)

4 Days Solo Trip in Summer South Africa (Cape Town City)
February 06 to 10, 2018

This is the first part of my personal challenge TRIPLE SOLO DAY HIKE in CAPE TOWN's TABLE MOUNTAIN THREE PEAKS (Devil's Peak, Table Mountain and Lion's Head). I did this to maximize my time on this area, save UBER ride fees and to challenge my signs of aging. Devil's Peak is the 2nd with difficult trail and 2nd highest among the three peaks. I finished the hike from ascent to descent on around 3.5 hours with more than 600m altitude gain. No registration fees and guide not required (trail is well recognizable). The trail is steep, rocky, sandy and very exposed to radiation. Hydration and sun protection is a must. I have only less than a liter drinking water on the entire hike wearing only a shirt and casual shorts. Challenge successful :)

Devil's Peak (1,001masl) was originally known as Windberg or Charles Mountain. The English term Devil's Peak is a 19th-century translation from the Dutch Duiwels Kop, and supposedly comes from the folk-tale about a Dutch man called Jan van Hunks, a prodigious pipe smoker who lived at the foot of the mountain circa 1700

4 Days Solo Trip in Summer South Africa (Cape Town City)

February 06 to 10, 2018

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." - Nelson Mandela

My 56th solo backpacking trip, 7th country to visit in African continenttotal of 64 countries visited so far and of course, usual budget do-it-yourself itinerary from arrival to departure. I did not research much for this country as I planned to concentrate my time only to discover the wonders of Cape Town City.

South Africa is located at the southern tip of Africa. It is a vast country with widely varying landscapes and has 11 official languages, as well as an equally diverse population. South Africa has the strongest economy in Africa, and is an influential player in African politics. If you want to travel in southern Africa then South Africa is a good place to start. Of course South Africa is not only a jumping off point, it is itself a superb destination rich in culture, fauna & flora and history.
