Hakone solo day-trip 1st part

Hakone is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, less than 100 kilometers from Tokyo. Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view of nearby Mt. Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among Japanese and international tourists looking for a break from Tokyo. Mount Fuji (3776 meters) is Japan's highest mountain and the focal point of the sprawling Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.

Lake Ashi was formed with t-khe violent eruption of Mt. Hakone volcano in prehistoric times. On clear days, visitors can admire majestic view of Mt. Fuji on the other side of the lake from Hakonemachi-ko and Motohakone-ko pass. Hakone freepass offers unlimited boarding on the Hakone sightseeing cruise.

Ancient Cedar Avenue was ordered to be planted by Edo Shogunate along the old Tokaido highway in 1618. This trees provided welcome comfort for travelers from the hot sun of summer and the snow of winter. There are still 2km of this large cedar avenue still remains.

Hakone Checkpoint / Sekisho Exhibition Hall is a place where realistic mannequins are shown what is what like checkpoints which existed throughout Japan during Edo era.

Owakudani is a hell valley which was formed before Christ by volcanic eruption. Walking on the promenade, you can see a wonderful smoking volcano. Never forget to eat special "Black Eggs", for 5 pieces it cost 200yen.
