Khone Phapheng Falls (Pearl of the Mekong River)

vietnam, cambodia and laos 11th solo backpacking tour
august 24 - september 1, 2011 wednesday to thursday

objective: to visit the best tourist spot that fits to my budget at limited amount of time.
additional tasks: lost half of my pocket-money in day 1... show must go on for the planned itinerary no matter how it takes

champasak province (southern laos) solo day-tour
4,000 islands rainy morning (li phi waterfalls)

continued...

after going back to guesthouse around 0845H from li phi falls, decided to check-out and be back to mainland port for another waterfalls sightseeing.

khone phapheng waterfalls, tagged as pearl of the mekong river, and assumed to be the niagara falls of southeast asia. being the largest cascade in the southeast asia, khone phapheng offers impressive views on its up to 15m high and 1 km rock formation, forcing the usually calm flow of the mekong river to roar through its narrow gorges and forming a natural obstacle for shipping.

The Khone Falls is the main reason that the Mekong is not fully navigable into China. The falls are characterised by thousands of islands and countless waterways, giving the area its name Si Phan Don or 'The 4,000 islands'.
