CHIMBORAZO VOLCANO, ECUADOR (Mar. 2021)
- Ecuador's highest mountain at 6,263masl (the closest point to the sun on earth)
- 2-days summit hike is very expensive at around $450 if alone, $350 per 2 person
- DIY day-hike is way cheaper and easy from Riobamba, 18km return trail distance with 900m elevation gain

Hitchhiked going to 1st Refuge (luckily) or 8km hike for 2 hours with 500m altitude gain
0745H Carrel Refuge (1st) (4,845masl)
0830H Whymper Refuge (2nd) (5,042masl)
0900H Lagoon Condor Cocha (5,100masl); Hiked further for glacier scaling
Chimborazo Dayhike (5,200masl); rest
1000H Descend back to 1st Refuge
1100H ETD Chimborazo; hitchhike
1200H ETA Riobamba; lunch 4; souvenir 2; El Mochilero Hostel; dinner 5

1. There's 0545H everyday bus departure from Riobamba Terrestre Terminal that goes to Guaranda with an hour travel for $2.5 fare.
2. It is highly recommended to start the hike as early as 7am to avoid the heavy fog at 1000H and raining (hale) at 1100H. In addition, other tourists start to arrive at around 0900H.
3. Another major advantage of starting early is no entrance fee to pay as there's no park officer on duty.
4. Chimborazo day-hike is allowed only up to Condor Cocha Lagoon (5,100masl)
5. Mountain Biking is allowed only up to 1st Refuge (4,845masl).
6. I'm just very lucky to have a hitch-hike transportation from Park Entrance going to 1st Refuge and going back until Riobamba. Or else, I might finished this trek in the afternoon.
