solo exploring of eastern mindanao in 4-days
saturday to thursday august 04-09, 2012
The last day of my 4-day provincial trailing in this part of the Philippines. I took the 1000H schedule of ferry bound to surigao city, around 1300H was my ETA. Afterwards I rode a multicab bound to downtown, asked the locals then proceed to the game plan for the day
Lumondo Waterfalls and eco-park
an almost forgotten nature wonder. It because when I arrived there, the trail going down is very savage. It has been neglected due to the roads en route is very very rocky. How did I go? from surigao downtown, I rode a multicab bound to alegria then asked the driver to drop-off to alegria bus stop. Good thing there is a signboard that tells where this waterfalls goes when I arrived in alegria. Then I rented a habal-habal for only 60 pesos roundtrip.

Surigao del Norte is a province consists of two major islands—Siargao Island and Bucas Grande Island—in the Philippine Sea, and a small region at the northernmost tip of the island of Mindanao. Its capital is Surigao City. Surigao City, the provincial capital is dubbed as the "Gateway to Mindanao". The ferry landing terminal in Lipata links Mindanao to Luzon through Eastern Visayas. It annually showcases in full regalia its distinct cultural heritage through the Bonok-Bonok Maradjao Karadjao" Festival.

Is the municipality of Alegria far from downtown Surigao City?
ReplyDelete@Ian; yes, approx. 30mins travel by multicab (jeep).
DeleteHow about from Tubod municipality? And is it also far from Lake Mainit? We're planning to see the falls by the end of May.
Delete@Ian; no idea in actual but as per map Tubod & Lake Mainit is just near to Alegria and passed in between main road from Surigao City. So perhaps aprrox. 15mins away from Alegria by multicab
DeleteThanks for the info
DeleteIs it hard to locate the falls once you arrive in Alegria municipality because were on commute. Are there entrance fees, guide to the falls or you can trek it yourself once you arrive at the jumpoint, and how much time will be consume. I hope you shed light on this. Thank you.
Deletefrom Surigao City downtown, I rode a multicab bound to Alegria then asked the driver to kindly drop me off to Alegria bus stop. Once here, I asked habal-habal on stand-by for Lumondo Waterfalls. This place is entirely abandoned by local government. Unmanned entrance, no admission fee, no guide, trail is very navigable, I did everything by myself. I'm the only person (& my habal-habal) in that area that time. 45mins is enough.
DeleteThank you for sharing info once again. I feel sad that the LGU or any gov't body abandoned it, hence the no guide and fee situation. But base on your visit, is it worth enough to see the falls? Sorry for many queries because we'll be traveling to SUG next week & we still don't have itin. Thanks again.
Deleteit's not worth it if comparing to the majesty of others such as Ma. Cristina (Iligan) and Tinuy-an (Bislig). Worth it if you are into secluded places, even locals tend to ignore they have nature wonder like this. What I like most when I was here is the solitude and the savagery/jungle feeling en route to falls. Moreover, the entire trip was very safe. I appreciate the queries as it makes me refresh my memories.
DeleteI'm just worried in the trail that we might be lost or no local will accompany. I have have a Surigaonon friend coming with us but he is not from the municipality so he is new to the place. Is the trail really easy for ourselves to trek? We'll just ask the habal-habal to wait for on our return trip.
Deleteyes, as you can see on the 2nd pic above, the trail is cemented.
DeleteThanks for sharing the info, keep up the good work going.... I really enjoyed exploring your site. good resource... Siargao Island Philippines
