Zambesi River Low-Tide White-water Rafting

3 Days Solo Trip in Summer Zimbabwe - Zambia for Victoria Falls
December 26 to 28, 2018

My 1st time experience to be capsized in rafting; on rapid #18 (Oblivion), class #5. The 3rd crashing wave is responsible for more raft flips than any other in the world – only about 1 in 4 attempts succeed! This rapid marks the end of the “low water” one-day run.

The Zambezi River is acclaimed as the “wildest one-day whitewater run in the World” highly regarded by white water rafting enthusiasts as one of the top ten paddling rivers on the planet! Zambezi white water rafting has been classified by the British Canoe Union as Grade 5 – which is “extremely difficult, long and violent rapids, steep gradients, big drops and pressure areas”. This is a high volume, pool-drop river with little exposed rock either in the rapids or in the pools below the rapids. “low water” run takes place when the Zambezi River is at its low level between July and mid-February. This is the most exciting time to go rafting. Day trips run between rapids 1 and 19. “high water” run when the water rises and flows more rapidly and the day trips move downstream from rapids 11 to 24. Usually between February to July with a short “closed” season around April/May depending on the season’s rains.

Nairobi Airport arrival in early morning

On my confirmed booking to Wild Race Africa travel tours, the only communication we had before my Kenya arrival was the email. Upon finishing the Immigration process, I immediately went to Exit and saw my name was written in a piece of paper raised by a local. I walked with him going to a car and advised we will be going first to the office located in Central Nairobi for briefing and wait for other tourist to arrive. Travel time was around 30 minutes only and I'm the only passenger. I took a nap first because it was 0600H then, agreed Nairobi departure was 0900H.

Day-1: Nairobi City to Masai Mara Reserve
Pick up from your place of stay in Nairobi at 8am and after a brief stop-over at our offices, for briefing purposes, depart for a journey south along the floor of the Great Rift Valley with a pit stop at the View Point for breath taking view of the rift valley. You can take photos and buy souvenirs as you listen to African tales about the formation of the rift valley. Arrive at Masai Mara in the late afternoon and enjoy a game drive till twilight. Dinner and overnight at Rhino Tourist Mara tented camp, our Masai Mara accommodation. Depart from Nairobi in the morning and drive along the floor of the Rift Valley to Masai Mara arriving at the camp in the afternoon for lunch. 3 Days Masai Mara Safari Solo Adventure in Kenya

the Season of Great Wildebeest Migration and Big Cats Photoshoot
July 11 to July 13, 2014

“In a country where only men are encouraged, one must be one's own inspiration.” ― Tegla Loroupe

My 37th country to visit, 33rd solo backpacking trip, 3rd country to visit in Africa, 1st part of 11-days East Africa adventure and of course, usual budget do-it-yourself itinerary from arrival to departure.

Although one of Africa's more powerful economies, Kenya is still a developing country, and so certain aspects of the country's society and infrastructure may come as a shock to some visitors from developed countries who are unfamiliar with the poverty and poor quality of life experienced by locals. Kenyans understandably pursue the business opportunities offered by tourism with a zeal that may be off putting to some visitors, but are usually open, talkative and friendly once business matters have been settled.
http://wikitravel.org/en/Kenya

A safari is an overland journey, usually a trip by tourists to Africa. Traditionally, the trip was a big-game hunt, but today, safari often refers to trips to observe and photograph wildlife—or hiking and sight-seeing. The Swahili word safari means long journey, originally from the Arabic "safarÄ«yah" meaning a journey. The verb for "to travel" in Swahili is "kusafiri", the noun for the journey is "safari".

Cappadocia 1st part; Hot Air Balloon above Turkey

4-days Turkey Summer Solo Escapade
June 27 to July 03, 2014

Pamukkale last part; Side trip to Aphrodisias Ruins

How to go to Cappadocia;
I went here from Pamukkale flight to Istanbul to Kayseri as there there was no cheapest direct flight and ideal arrival timings on bus road trip. I aimed my 1st balloon flight adventure on daily schedule of 0400H via walk-in query only in Mislina travels in Pamukkale, booked together with airport transfer. Cheapest standard balloon flight costs 270TRY($128.6=PHP5,600). I arrived in Kayseri airport at 0130H then went out and saw immediately a man waving my name on a piece of paper. Airport transfer to Cappadocia costs 30TRY($14.3) for an hour minibus travel. I arrived in Urgup Balloons Office (Mislina travels booked me on this) at 0400H. I have my early free breakfast (unlimited tea and bread) while waiting for other tourists to arrive. Obviously, I didn't have sleep, the usual itinerary challenge on me on a very limited stay. Despite of that, it did not affect my excitement on what's waiting for me in the next few minutes.

I availed the cheapest tour, they called as the standard flight. They are going to pick you up from your hotel early in the morning by their vehicles in Göreme. They will offer you some coffee, tea and snack  foods. Then they will let us watch preparing balloons at the take-off area. Preparations normally takes 15-20 minutes, flights beginning with the sunrise. Pilots climb until 3000 feets from ground level to show you the beauty of Cappadocia. Also they can fly 1 meter close to the rocks as well to takes nice pictures and for fun. Standard Flight takes 60 minutes and they are using 16-20-26 persons basket. There will be champagne celebration at the end of the flight. They will offer Flight Certificate signed by the pilot (with no additional fee) to remind this experience to you. Afterwards,  they will drop us back to our hotels.

Pamukkale 3rd part; Parachute-gliding High above Hierapolis

4-days Turkey Summer Solo Escapade
June 27 to July 03, 2014

Pamukkale 2nd part; Ancient Roman City of Hierapolis

I aimed my tandem paragliding adventure with my intended schedule (0830H) via walk-in query only and in bulk booking together with airport transfers and Cappadocia balloon flight for the next day. The cost of this activity was negotiated to 110TRY($52.4) that includes round-trip van transportation to the mountain from my hostel, gears and insurance. If booked online, paragliding costs 170TRY($81) that includes gears, round-trip transfers, insurance and a CD of photos and video's captured during the flight. Photos below came from the GoPro digicam owned by the Paraglider. I negotiated the CD of shots by 50TRY($23.8). The flight lasts about 15mins.

Tandem paragliders, designed to carry the pilot and one passenger, are larger but otherwise similar. They usually fly faster with higher trim speeds, are more resistant to collapse, and have a slightly higher sink rate compared to solo paragliders. In Pamukkale, the take-off runway mountain has 300m peak and its slope is wide enough for two wings to take-off easily at the same time. The Landing Runway is at the end of the flight track.

Ouarzazate Tour 3rd part; Camel Backride in Sahara Desert

4-days Morocco Self-guided Solo Tour
July 03 to July 06, 2014

Ouarzazate tour 2nd part; short visit to Ouarzazate

We arrived around 1700H to the starting point where the camels are waiting for us. We were dispatched on a guide with group of four. Camel back ride last around 2 hours. Exciting on first 15 minutes, but  when it takes longer it was pain in lower part between legs.

Camels are known as the ships of the desert, but this doesn’t mean that they are always in a condition to ship tourists around. Don’t believe that camels need to be whipped or beaten to make them work. Look to see how the owner interacts with his animal – a gentle tap should be enough to tell the camel what he needs to do.

Gudauri Ice Skiing; under the Heavy Snow

4-days Solo Trip in Winter Republic of Georgia
January 28 to February 01, 2014

Kutaisi afternoon tour last part; walking the streets

There's nothing better than getting to the top of a ski lift, breathing in the cold, pure air and gazing across the snowy peaks realizing the you are about to ski down the side of a mighty mountain. The skiing is equally impressive and recent, continuing upgrades and investments mean that traditional resorts of Gudauri and Bakuriani are equal  to international standards. Located in the very heart of the Caucasus mountains, surrounded by some of Europe's most dramatic peaks, Gudauri is a resort for all seasons. During the ski season, from December to mid-April, Gudauri offers a full work-out for all levels of skiiers and boarders. True experts will want to sample some of the most challenging off-peaks slopes in Europe.

How to go to Gudauri;
From Tbilisi Didube Bus Terminal; ride a mini-bus going to Gudauri for only 7GEL ($4) for around 2 hours travel. Departure timings from Didube to Gudauri is every 2-hour basis (0900H, 1100H, 1300H, 1500H). Then from Gudauri, just walk going left and follow the map where the skiing mountains are pointed. Departure timings from Gudauri to Tbilisi is 0900H, 1100H, 1300H, 1500H and 1700H. 1700H departure timing is very peak for locals so better to leave at most 1500H.

What I did here was just riding the three sets of chairlifts for only 5GEL ($2.9) per roundtrip set. Yes, chairlifts can also be used by non-skiers. I planned to visit the highest peak that a chairlift can reached but unfortunately snowstorm was bad during this time; I reached only Kudebi 1 at around 3,011m summit. The highest peak is 3,279m of Mt. Sadzele with 4 chairlifts supposed to be on run. I arrived around 1300H and planned for 1700H Gudauri departure but unfortunately as I advised above, minibus was full-packed by locals. Thus, my 2nd hitch-hike abroad was again commenced through the aid of a very unusual english-speaking lady waiter who asked the wine delivery car passing-by who fortunately heading back to Tbilisi area. Though all of them inside the car can't speak english, I joined them in their delivery work. I contributed 20GEL ($11.6) for gasoline share, they did not asked for it even for passenger fare (imagine for a four-hours drive across a very chilling weather). Based on this scenario, I concluded Georgians are the most kind-hearted individuals I ever met on my entire backpacking career.

The Viewing Deck Collections; Scary Rollercoaster Rides

roller coaster is a popular amusement ride developed for amusement parks and modern theme parks. LaMarcus Adna Thompson patented the first coasters on January 20, 1885. In essence a specialized railroad system, a roller coaster consists of a track that rises in designed patterns, sometimes with one or more inversions (such as vertical loops) that turn the rider briefly upside down. The track does not necessarily have to be a complete circuit, as shuttle roller coasters exhibit.

The Viewing Deck Collections; Amusement and Theme Parks

Amusement and theme parks are terms for a group of entertainment attractions and rides and other events in a location for the enjoyment of large numbers of people. Most amusement parks have a fixed location, as compared to traveling funfairs and carnivals. These temporary types of amusement parks are usually present for a few days or weeks per year, such as funfairs, and carnivals (temporarily set up in a vacant lot or parking lots) and fairs (temporarily operated in a fair ground). The temporary nature of these fairs helps to convey the feeling that people are in a different place or time.

Osaka Day Trip last part: Universal Studios (USJ)

7-days wandering solo in summer Japan
May 28 - June 04, 2013 Tuesday to Tuesday

Osaka day trip 1st part: the Castle

Universal Studios Singapore, USS (Jan. 2011)

2nd part of my Osaka tour, last day-trip in Japan. I initially intended to visit Disneysea Resort because this themepark is the best rated (and much more cheaper, 6,200yen only compared to 6,600 of USJ) among all in Japan. But due to weather discomfort and budget doubt, I decided to spend the remaining money if ever I had to this place. In my honest opinion, the following are my comparative observations regarding personal experience in Universal Studios Japan (Osaka) against researched data of Disneysea Resort (Tokyo).

Universal Studios Osaka (Kansai) versus Disneysea Resort Tokyo (Kanto);

1. Disneysea Resort is the best rated thempark in Japan.
2. Disneysea Resort has cheaper entrance fee.
3. Disneysea Resort is unique and can be found only in Japan.
4. I think Disneysea is much wider.
5. Space Mountain (DSR) has almost the same concept with Space Fantasy (USJ).
6. Disneysea Resort is mainly for children while USJ is somewhat more for adolescence.

Then, why did I visit USJ knowing that Disneysea wins almost every aspects? Nothing, its the only option I had as my Osaka was my last destination for this trip. If ever I was in Tokyo, I would do the same. Besides, curious to know the difference between USS and USJ just for the sake I visited them both.

3rd Kuwait Red Bull Flugtag 2012

the fun of defying gravity in artistic way
october 19, 2012 friday

“The reason birds can fly and we can't is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.” ― J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird

Red Bull flugtag challenges sponsored team in Kuwait to build homemade, human-powered flying machines and take them to the skies off a six-meter high ramp. Event happened in Marina Crescent located along Gulf road infront of Marina Mall, 1pm October 19th, 2012 Friday.

During the event, there was a mini-intermission to showcase the introduction of every flugtags before it goes to ramp. I think most of the interviewees were Filipino performers and the commonly used background music was "gangnam style" by Psy. Update on the winners will be posted soon.
