My Rating:

3 of 10 stars

not so organized, very minimal aid station, flat route with minimal elevation gain

Route difficulty: Almost flat route along Guimba main road for only 43m total elevation gain, ideal for PR, excellent for marathon beginners and slow runners like me. Using headlamp/flashlight is important as some areas of the route is pitch black.
Remarks (My rating: 3 of 10 stars): (1) Full Marathon route is awesome due to its almost flat terrain; passing through Guimba main road, etc. (2) Not so organized, started late with race area not ready yet. (3) 42km Singlet/Finisher shirt design is somehow good. (4) Very minimal aid station (only water) with locations very far to each other (provided map was not followed). (5) Only milk tea, no post-race meal. (6) Full Marathon route was approximately 100m short. (7) No portalet, only one toilet available for all the participants (8) Poor planning in general
If given the chance, would I like to join this race again? No (enough for the experience)

Morning Trip to Taong Putik (Mud Men) Festival 2016

24-June-2016 Friday in Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, Luzon, Philippines

"Pagsa-San Juan", known also as the Pista ng Taong Putik (Mud Men Festival), is a tradition conducted every 24th of June at Barangay Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija. This festival is celebrated in honor of San Juan Bautista (Saint John the Baptist). Devotees apply mud and cover their body with dried banana leaves as tribute on their origin, act of penance and a symbol of humility.

There is another popular tale which tells that Japanese soldiers were about to execute all the suspected guerrillas in the town of Bibiclat because they have killed 13 Japanese soldiers. The relatives of the suspects went to the church to pray. While praying, it rained hard and the Japanese stopped the squad to set the guerrillas free. The villagers danced in joy and played in the mud for being so thankful. Residents attributed this miracle to Saint John the Baptist and vowed to pay a feast day by wearing costumes patterned after his attire but by using native materials.

Minalungao National Park Solo Day Trip

Nueva Ecija's emerging finest tourist attraction
March 11, 2015

My 42nd solo backpacking trip and 1st time to visit in Nueva Ecija which makes it my 61st out of 80 province of the Philippines. This trip also serves a flashpacking due to unexpected planning day before just to compensate my remaining open time on my 2015 vacation in my homeland.

Minalungao National Park is a protected area located in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija in Central Luzon, Philippines. The park covers an area of 2,018 hectares centered along the scenic PeƱaranda River bordered on both sides by up to 16-meter high limestone walls in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range. It is promoted by the local government as an ecotourism destination offering breath-taking scenery of green pristine river and unique rock formations. Facilities for picnics, swimming, fishing, raft riding and cliff diving.
