sightseeing the Bandar Seri Begawan, Kampong Ayer and Temburong

"Future peace, prosperity and confidence depend not just on ourselves but on the success of all nations. Hence, we are all partners, no matter what our backgrounds, cultures, faiths and histories." - Hassanal Bolkiah

My 47th solo backpacking trip, 29th in Asian continent, 58 countries visited so far and of course, usual budget do-it-yourself itinerary from arrival to departure. This trip is the last part on my Final Get-away Trip as an OFW in Kuwait, entitled as Final Kuwait Get-Away; Solo Trip across Winter South Asia (Iran - Malaysia - Nepal - Brunei).

Sultanate of Brunei (Negara Brunei Darussalam), the Abode of Peace is a small but - thanks to natural gas and petroleum resources - very rich country located in Southeast Asia. Brunei is a pint-sized and fabulously wealthy oil-rich sultanate with a population of just under half a million, if illegal immigrants from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines are included. It is a member of the Commonwealth and has good education and hygiene. The population is devoutly Muslim.

Interesting Facts about Brunei:
1. One of the wealthiest people on earth, the Sultan of Brunei has a collection of more than 500 luxury cars and a palace that has more than 1500 rooms.
2. When Brunei first participated at the 1988 Olympic Games, its delegation was composed of a single official and no athletes.
3. Blessed with vast reserves of oil in the region, the country’s countries economy is based on natural gas, and oil.
4. Brunei is almost as expensive as Singapore, twice as expensive as Malaysia.

Arriving from Brunei International Airport in the afternoon;
I booked via Air Asia flight from Kathmandu to Brunei via stop-over / transit in Kuala Lumpur. Aircraft arrived around 1630H then proceed to immigration officer desk ASEAN lane. While scanning my passport, the IO asked my usual questions like "How long am I going to stay" and "Can I see your outbound ticket please". In less than a minute the IO handed-over my passport with 14-days maximum stay. After I claimed my luggage and money exchange to local currency, I went to airport departure exit for bus going to Bandar at $1 fare. I asked the bus conductor to drop me at Pusat Belia Youth Hostel. Unfortunately this cheapest hostel was closed until March 2016. The receptionist recommended other 2 hostels just walking distance from here which I ended up in K. H. Soon Guesthouse.
