Principality of Liechtenstein is a small, alpine German-speaking country doubly landlocked by Switzerland and Austria. It is the last remnant of the Holy Roman Empire and an independent nation with very close ties to Switzerland. Liechtenstein was established within the Holy Roman Empire in 1719 and became a sovereign state in 1806. Until the end of World War I, it was closely tied to Austria, but the economic devastation caused by that conflict forced Liechtenstein to conclude a customs and monetary union with Switzerland. Since World War II (in which Liechtenstein remained neutral), the country's low taxes have spurred outstanding economic growth.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT LIECHTENSTEIN (",)
1. In Liechtenstein’s last military engagement in 1866, none of the 80 soldiers sent were injured, and that in fact 81 returned, including a new Italian “friend”.
2. The average citizen of Liechtenstein doesn’t even lock their door because crime in the country is so low. The last murder was 10 years ago (as of 2007).
3. Liechtenstein is so small that in 2007, Swiss troops accidentally invaded it after getting lost in a rain storm.

CROSSBORDER NIGHT TRAIN FROM FRANKFURT, GERMANY TO LIECHTENSTEIN VIA SARGANS, SWITZERLAND
- seats are reclinable, very comfortable. Power outlet only at last seat #21 and no wifi onboard. Toilet available.
- there was passport control officer (ladies) onboard. The process is like an ordinary ticket inspection, very relaxing and no intimidation intercepted. The 2 IO's kindly asked for my passport, inspected and asked typical questions like "when and where did you come from?, how much cash I brought?, what is your next destination?"
