Morning Visit to Mount Nebo and the Dead Sea

Surprise Winter Christmas Week-end Get-away in Jordan
December 23 to December 27, 2014

How to go to Mount Nebo and Dead Sea;
The best and practical way to visit these both is to take a cab as there is no public bus that pass through exactly on these two location despite the proximity of around 20 minutes drive. you can negotiate the cab for around 50 JOD ($71) for a return trip to Amman with around 4 hours hired (45mins travel from Amman/Dead Sea, 20mins travel from Mount Nebo to Dead Sea, remaining time for strolling). Photography and video taking is permitted inside the park.

Mount Nebo's real fame derived from the biblical event that occurred upon it as described in the Book of Deuteronomy 34; the death of Prophet Moses, who climbed this holy mountain at the end of his life to see the promised land. Mount Nebo's highest crest reaches an altitude of 800masl. Historic Mount Nebo provides a panorama of the Holy Land, and to the north, a more limited one of the Jordan River valley. The excavated remains of a church and a monument commemorating the biblical story of Moses and the bronze serpent stand atop the mountain. Mount Nebo is a short 15 minute drive from the Dead Sea. Visitors can plan to spend around an hour at the site at a cost of 1 JD per person.

The Dead Sea has its eastern coast in Jordan. It is the lowest point in the world at 394.6 m (1269 ft) below sea level. The Dead Sea is naturally endorheic (no outlet streams) with the Jordan River being its only major source. Due to the man-made reduction of the Jordan River (the river waters are 70-90 % used for human purposes) and the high evaporation rate of the Dead Sea, the sea is shrinking. All the shallow waters of the southern end of the sea have been drained and are now salt flats.
