Beijing City Tour (CCTV Building & Jingshan Park)

6-days winter solo backpacking in Mainland China
january 26 -  february 01, 2013 saturday to friday

how to go to CCTV headquarters;
Guomao station of line 10 (light blue).

The CCTV Headquarters is not a traditional tower, but a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections covering 473,000 m2 (5,090,000 sq ft) of floor space, creating an irregular grid on the building's facade with an open center. The construction of the building is considered to be a structural challenge, especially because it is in a seismic zone. Because of its radical shape, it's said that a taxi driver first came up with its nickname dà kùchǎ, roughly translated as, "big boxer shorts".

how to go to Jingshan park;
I took a taxi from qianmen station, around 20cny. No nearby subway station.

Jingshan (literally "Prospect Hill") is an artificial hill in Beijing, China. Covering an area of more than 230,000 m², Jingshan is immediately north of the Forbidden City on the central axis of Beijing. Originally an imperial garden, it is now a public park, known as Jingshan Park.The last emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Chongzhen, committed suicide by hanging himself here in 1644. Jingshan is especially a popular place for elderly people socializing and gathering. One can often find elderly folks dancing, singing opera and doing other cultural activities, such as kuai ban, at Jingshan.

My plan this day supposedly was to visit also Tienanmen Square and Forbidden city located just 3km away from my hostel. But due to heavy fog and continuous snow, the park administrator decided to close earlier because of the very slippery floor and thick snow created.
