Eastern Visayas Transprovincial Saga (Southern Leyte)

sogod-calbiga-tacloban-ormoc
5th solo-backpacking journey
november 11-14, 2010

objective: to visit the best tourist spots that fits my taste and budget accordingly.
additional tasks: to experience bungee jumping at the philippines' highest bridge and spelunk the philippines' biggest karst formation

important note (southern leyte):
Southern Leyte is a province of the Philippines located in the Eastern Visayas region. Maasin City is the capital of the province. Southern Leyte was once a sub-province of Leyte before it was divided from the latter. Limasawa, an island to the south is part of the province where the first Christian mass was held and is said to be the birthplace of Christianity in the Philippines

arrived 1700H in tacloban airport, since it was almost dark, i have decided to start my journey on the following day. after checking-out the airport, rode a jeep going to downtown, dropped to burgost street for some posh barbeque resto which i just seen while rifing that jeep. i tried to made a chance if the bus terminal still opens that time but i failed, i saw lights were already off in the terminal at 1900H. no other choice but to go back to downtown and pend my night there.

DAY ONE:
SOGOD, SOUTHERN LEYTE

im going to this place to experience the 1st bungee jumping in the philippines located in the highest bridge erected in the philippines. i was informed there will be a bungee jump adventure and that's the reason why i'm heading in this area. i woke up as early as 0500H to be able to arrive earlier but unfortunately, this was what happened.

0600H ETA tacloban new terminal (leyte)
0700H ETD tacloban new terminal
1215H ETA maasin terminal (southern leyte)
1230H ETD maasin terminal
1510H ETA sogod terminal (southern leyte)
1615H ETA agas-agas bridge

as you can see, there was over 10 hours travel time from tacloban city bus terminal to sogod town. actually there were van that could go directly to sogod town but i don't know what's the schedule or it was really true. anyways, since i'm doubtful, i took public bus. due to the poor process of transportation around there, public vehicles did not depart on time. as in boredome of waiting really kills me, they want to make their vehicles full of passengers, typical province ill. my whole day wasted only to road traveling. and i thought my plan will be on its way as i was a little bit nervous when the habal-habla get's nearer to the bridge, I WAS TOTALLY WRONG. that bungee jumping even the zipline was an absolute public gimmick of the government officials. i don't know why they like to make jokes in media like that. sad to say, i just made a photo-walk ang mingle with fellow local tourist. the effort somehow has just been paid by the scenic views so i grab the opportunity to have the viewing deck be captured. around 1730H i decided to leave the bridge with not so much frustration  and went back to downtown and spend the night there.

  1. it's true that you can go directly from tacloban city to sogod and travel time is 3 to 4 hours depending on how many times the bus stops.
